Background
We are in the process with our customer of building a National Data Center (NDC).
The NDC core mission will be to provide an industry standard hosting environment for government and Public Sector Organizations hardware and applications.

Many government mission critical data, applications and services are also hosted at the current small size server room. With the construction of the Data Center, most of the systems will be moved to the new setup that will meet international standards.
The position is for initial 9 month with optional extensions.

Objective of the Assignment We wish to recruit one (1) Senior Linux System Administration Engineer who will mentor, lead, organize and train a team of junior System Administrators in Linux System Administration to better handle data center related operations.
Scope of Work The scope of work of the Senior Linux Systems Administration Engineer will be the following:
1. Provide support in organizing and implementing the data center migration to its new location with minimal interruption time of critical services and applications;
2. Support the running of the Linux platform-based data center operations that will ensure the best delivery of services;
3. Provide strategic technical advisory services on critical systems acquisition;
4. Analyze and plan for changes in data capacity and performance requirements; evaluate hardware, software, and new technologies for applicability; harmonize the hardware and software infrastructure implementations; identify process improvements; Provide budget projections and time line for implementing recommended changes;
5. Support the establishment of a disaster recovery plan that will ensure business continuity of critical applications and services hosted at its premises;
6. Support the definition of data and systems security policy, strategies and techniques that can guarantee that the institution meets its critical role in the government;
7. Perform a systems security audit and policy standards compliance (RFCs) on the current systems setup, suggest remediation actions and support the technical team to implement them;
8. Investigate the systems infrastructure and services, advise on areas of improvement and mentor the technical team to enhance them;
9. Provide technical advisory support in the implementation of e-government related projects including unified communications (Voice, video and Data) and Unified messaging.
10. Support the institution to fully adopt and comply with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices;
11. Assist in putting in place a proper sub-versioning, knowledge base and standard operating procedure documentation for all system administration tasks that will allow technical continuity of services and systems; Develop and deliver system documentation, including but not limited to Technical Design, Configuration, Work Practices and User Guides.
12. Ensure system administration and security hardening hands-on training to the technical staff;
13. Mentor the junior technical staff towards system administration best practices and ensure a maximum knowledge transfer of technical related capabilities;
14. Be available on site during the entire duration of the assignment with office hours starting from 8 am – 5 pm from Monday to Friday. Key Functions and Responsibilities The key functions of the Senior System Administration Engineer will be the following:
15. Lead all system administration, server and storage management functions as well as third Party software and infrastructure. Includes, but not limited to VMWare, UNIX virtualizations and fiber channel networks.
16. Maintain, monitor, and tune Unix/Linux/Network environment.
17. Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Unix/Linux/Network environment operating system and commercial off the shelf (COTS) software to current versions and security levels.
18. Manage organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data on Unix/Linux/Network servers and clients.
19. Lead Management and high availability of services and applications managed under the Linux OS.
20. Lead the Management and design of server security, hosting and monitoring.
21. Ensure proper license management for various applications and operating systems.
22. Lead the planning and implementation of Disaster Recovery mechanisms.
23. Any other functions that may be assigned by the Director of the Data Center

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computing, IT, engineering extensive experience in Linux operating system At least 10 years of practical experience in the Linux System Administration field. Strong troubleshooting, decision-making and problem-solving skills Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel and ability to work as part of a team. Proven experience in assignments / projects of similar nature and scope. Fluency in English knowledge of French would be nice, but not mandatory.
